Stakeholder map template, filled in from your CRM for every deal

Stakeholder map places everyone on a deal in a role (economic buyer, champion, evaluator, user, blocker, outside influencer), marks influence and stance on a power and interest grid, flags who is missing, and gives one next step per person.

What does Stakeholder map do?Stakeholder map places everyone on a deal in a role (economic buyer, champion, evaluator, user, blocker, outside influencer), marks influence and stance on a power and interest grid, flags who is missing, and gives one next step per person. It reads contacts, buying roles and activity from your CRM.

What you get

  • Covered, thin or single-threaded, in one line
  • A stakeholder table with role, influence, stance and evidence
  • A power and interest grid
  • One next step per gap, with owner and date

What it asks you

Only what your website, CRM and company context cannot answer.

  • Who have you met, and who is involved but not met?
  • Who is pushing for this, and how was that tested?

The method

Roles, power and mobilisers

Miller Heiman’s buying roles, Mendelow’s power and interest grid and The Challenger Customer’s research on mobilisers, applied to one deal. Forrester found buying groups grow for AI purchases, so single-threaded deals are the most fragile.

The research behind it: Buying roles, The power and interest grid, Mobilisers, Buying groups

Questions people ask

What is a stakeholder map?

A list of everyone who influences a decision, with their role, how much power they have and where they stand, usually shown on a power and interest grid. In sales it shows who decides, pays, evaluates, uses and can block a deal.

What should a stakeholder map include?

For each person: name and title, buying role, power, stance (for, neutral, against or unknown), the evidence for that stance, and one next step with an owner and a date. Add the people who are involved but you have not met.

How do you create a stakeholder map for a deal?

List everyone you have met and everyone who is involved but not met, give each a buying role, rate power and stance with evidence, place them on the grid, then plan one step per gap. The stakeholder mapping playbook walks through it with a free template.
